RSA Soft Token For Android

I’ve been deploying a ton of RSA Soft Tokens and i’m frequently asked for a RSA Soft Token for Android. Up until recently i’ve had to reply that none exists but now at least I have a projected timeframe. I contacted my RSA representative and was informed that there will indeed be an RSA Token For Android but it isn’t scheduled until Q4 of 2010 and maybe Q1 2011. So for now Android users are stuck with Windows or physical RSA tokens. Hopefully the Adroid RSA Token will be relesed sooner than expected.

This is great news. Any chance this is documented in the RSA Secure ID homepage or some other location (press release)?

I’ve actually found a workaround for this. You can take the java app for RSA and convert it to an apk with an application found here: http://www.netmite.com/android/ . You then have to get the token converted to a numeric string using the converter available on RSA’s website.

Thanks for letting us know. i tried this out and did not have any success. Is the java app you are talking about the “RSA SecurID Token for the Java ME Platform”? That’s the one I downloaded. I converted it to SecurID.apk then copied it to my phone. When I ran it, it requested that I install Java J2ME Runner. First I tried installing the runner from here: http://www.netmite.com/android/rc/andme/2030/andme_signed.apk. When that didn’t work, I uninstalled the runner and installed the one from the market. In both cases the app fails with “Error in start.com.rsa.ctkip.toolkit.client.SecurID nulljava.lang.NullPointerException at com.rsa.ctkip.toolkit.client.SecurID.(SecurID.java) at java.lang.Class.newInstanceImpl(NativeMethod) at java.lang.Class.newInstance(Class.java:1479) at com.netmite.andme.MIDletRunner.createMIDlet(Unknown Source) Please contact Midlet Author.

Exiting the message seems to leave me in the runner app.

I’m guessing the java solution won’t work for AT&T phones like the Samsung Captivate, since AT&T insists you download all apps from the marketplace? Well, at least Q4 2010 isn’t so far away…
