There are certain things for which I am constantly googling for a piece of information. When I notice that i’ve googled for something over and over I often build a website around it if I cannot easily find what I’m looking for. This is one of the many “holes” that exist in the world wide web. You can use these holes to make money and at the very least serve yourself with easy access to information you know you need anyway. A couple examples would be the phone number for the Elk River Applebees. Now that i’ve added a page for this to my Elk River website I just google Elk River Applebees and boom up comes the name address and phone number that i’m looking for. Years ago I found myself checking the Minnesota Vikings Schedule over and over to see who was playing when and whether the Minnesota Vikings were home or away. So I created a website that I update each year with the Minnesota Vikings Schedule and their win or loss record. It’s proven to be very helpful to myself and others who visit the site.

One of my favorite shows The Real Estate Pro’s begins again today. Damn I missed it as I saw the times in Eastern and assumed it was Central. Anyway the Season 2 of The Real Estate Pro’s started 7/21 at 7:30pm Eastern Time. I’ll be catching it n the DVR tonight and can’t wait to see if it helps my Ginger Alexander website. Long ago I found that people were looking for Ginger Alexander Pictures so I made a small website to serve that need. As the show has gone off the air for awhile the site has grown stale. Hopefully having the show on the air again will revive the website. On another note I learned that Ginger Alexander Got Married to Richard Davis from the show. That should make another twist on the new season.

When working in this business I always look for “holes” created in the world wide web that create opportunies for me. For example I do alot with Car Dealers, most will register their name but many do not register their slang name for example If a Toyota dealer is located in Sebring Florida but called Alan Jay Toyota they may not have registered SebringToyota.com but i’ll bet folks call them that. Further a dealership like this has an easily misspelled name so it’s logical that folks might type in AllenJayToyota.com and hit a dead spot. Rather than these folks missing their search i’ll build a site profiling the dealership. Provide the name address and phone number and hours of operation. This way I get traffic and hopefully ad revenue. The dealership gets their customer by way of the inforamation I provide and everyone wins.

Today I found a great directory to submit sites to. RR-TT Directory categorizes sites by topic and if approved will let you submit your website to their directory. Obviously if approved this is excellent as links act like votes in the online world. So if you have a site to submit, check out RR-TT Directory and see if you can get your site approved.

So today I signed up for BlogRankings which ranks blogs by their traffic. I am not sure if I receive enough traffic to be ranked but what the heck.

Anytime i’m buying something expensive I always end up with a website about that item. When I buy expensive items I usually have to do some research to determing what I want to buy. I did this when we put an Air Exchanger in our house and had to learn who to hire and what model to buy. I also did this when I bought a Toro Recycler lawn mower. For me $300+ is alot to spend on a lawn mower so I did alot of research comparing the Toro Recycler vs the Honda lawn mowers. Finally I bought the Toro but also created a website with all my newly learned information about shopping for a high end lawn mower. The site has been successful and earned money over the past year. However today I found a new benefit. My Toro Recycler broke making horrible whacking noises when it is running. I have no idea what is wrong but I believe it has a two year warranty and now I can test that out too. The key is that I can document my experience on the website. If Toro does well with the warranty they get good PR. If they do not do well, I have a forum to express my displeasure. I can now keep shoppers updated on not only how to buy a high end lawn mower but how the companies do when things do not go so well.

One of the things I like to do is profile local hotspots such as restaurants that are popular. Many times a local reataurant will have folks searching for hours, location or reviews so I just create a simple website that offers them the core data they are searching for. A local restaurant called Pittsburgh Blue is one such restaurant that was attracting alot of search traffic. I created a small website with the inforamtion that searchers were looking for and pointed them to some reviews of the Maple Grove restaurant and while it’s not making me rich, it did add to the revenue pile with 6x my investment in the domain name in the first year.

Many times using Google Trends, i’ll find people asking questions using Google. This tells me there is an opportunity to answer the question with a specialized site. Ideally the question should be asked often so that your efforts are rewarded over and over. Take for example near and certainly on any holiday people start typing USPS Holidays or USPS Holiday Schedule in an effort to find out if they should expect their United States Postal Service mail that day. I took this and made a website called USPS Holidays that outlines all the mail holidays for 2009. Each year I’ll update the list and change the year and i’m set. I win because it generates some revenue and the visitors win by getting the answer to their question very quickly. Another example is that I noticed people searching for Costco Hours and they maintain the same store hours across the US. I simply created a site that provides that specific bit of information to the customers.
