One of my favorite formula’s for websites is to just take a city. Make a website around it and profile all the good restaurants, shopping, hotels and anything else significant in the city. I just took a small town nearby called Otsego MN which only has about 10-15 businesses worth noting but maybe when the economy improves it will grow and the site will be more established. I’ve has similar success with Rogers, Maple Grove, Roseville and Coon Rapids. So my point is that you can easily duplicate my efforts and bring in revenue by profiling businesses in your own city or those nearby.

As of April 8, 2009 all Google Adsense publishers are supposed to have a privacy policy page and links on their website. This is a tremendous burdon to those of us with 400-500 websites that now need updating. Lucky for us some helpful folks have created the Google Adsense Privacy Policy Generator that makes quick work of creating that privacy policy for your website. I may use it by just logging onto my web server, generate the privacy policy for each site and save it to the root of my websites. Then I only have to go and create a link on each of the sites to that privacy policy. While it pisses me off that Google can create so much uncompensated work they are indeed the customer and if you are an Adsense publisher you really have no choice but to just get it done and begin implementing privacy policies in your future websites. I used the privacy policy generator today on my Pulmonary Specialist website to bring it in compliance with Google’s new policy.

Sometimes when i’m out of ideas i’ll look for writers selling packs of pre-written articles. Many times they have already thought of ideas for new websites and even written the content. This saves time and money as you don’t have to hire a writer and wait for the content to be written. You just browse a forum like the content section on forums.digitalpoint.com and if you find a writer selling content you simply buy it and post it to your website. I often find bargains when a writer has written several articles and then gets no offers. I can then offer them a lower price for the pack and sometimes they take the offer. A great example is a pack I bought on Craigslist Selling Tips which was a subject I never thought to do as a website. I simply bought the pack of articles, bought a domain and uploaded them to a website after putting my ads on the articles. Sure enough while i’m not getting rich the website is earning and i’ve not touched it for months. Another example is a pack of Golden Retriever articles that made for a very nice website.

Lets say you want to make extra money but don’t want to create websites, manage advertising and promotion and SEO for those websites. Well if you don’t mind giving up the rights to your work you might consider being a freelance content writer for webmasters. How might this work? Well it’s fairly common for a webmaster to need content for websites but they may not have the time or skill to write the ideas that are in their head. So for about $5-$7 per article you could write the content for them. Say for example I need five articles on Unemployment In Florida, Eligibility for Unemployment, The Florida unemployment application , filing an unemployment claim in Florida and the Florida unemployment rate. You would then go find information on these topics and write a 300-500 word article on each topic. Submit your article to your customer and you’d make $25 – $30 for that pack of articles. Where would you find customers? Well on bulletin boards like DigitalPoint in the Content or Services section. You can post and offer for your services, submit samples and possible pick up some long term customers. You could also check out a freelancing website like elance and become a writer there. Elance will provide you a place to offer your services by bidding on projects. As you can see you can make money online not only by being a webmaster but by servicing other webmasters.

If you pay attention to current events you’ll notice trends that can drive traffic to sites.  For example, the government likes to pass bills and create programs and give them cute catchy names.  Often people want more information on these programs so they google the cute names or variations of the names.  A recent example is the Cash For Clunkers bill or as people are calling it the Clunker Bill 2009 which I promptly registered and created a website to provide information on the Cash For Clunkers program.  People have been searching for Cash For Clunkers, Clunker Bill and Clunker Bill 2009 and sometimes they find my site.  The key is to find things with catch phrases you can latch onto.  Government programs are great because they are often confusing so you have a great opportunity to make some money while clearing up some information for your visitors.

Periodically I come across a problem that requires time and attention to solve. Eventually I usually find a solution and to not document it would be a waste. That’s another reason I keep a blog so I have a place to note the problem and resulting solution. I of course have Google Adsense ads on my post to generate revenue but i’ve also found that I can use my past blog posts as a source of information when the problem reoccurs. That saves me a ton of time. To illustrate this, recently I ran into some spyware or malware that put a file on the PC called uacinit.dll and I could not get that file deleted even with the best antimalware tools. I needed to find a way to remove the uacinit.dll file from the PC so that it would not become reinfected with malware. Eventually I found a solution and removed the offending dll file. Knowing others would be looking for ways to remove this piece of malware I documented what worked for me and sure enough traffic to my blog has increased. In your day to day life you likley solve various problems and you should have a place to note your solutions. This helps yourself while helping others.

If you are short on ideas consider checking out Google Trends on a daily basis, heck even hourly. I find great ideas on Google Trends as it shows you what people are searching for that are in an uptrend. So duh you make websites steered towards those things. Many times the keywords folks are surfing for are new words or terms so competition is low. Recently I had some success with a few things you might find useful as examples. Folks were searching for makinghomeaffordable.gov and clunker bill. Well obviously I had to make two sites or at least pages for the Obama Making Home Affordable refinance and loan modification pland as well as the Cash For Clunkers bill where the government will take tax money from one person and give it to another to get them to turn in their less efficient car and go into debt for a more efficient car they may or may not be able to afford. So as you can see. If you can’t beat them make money off their efforts.
