If you are looking for an easy way to extend the reach of your Wifi network you can accomplish this easy for $52.99 by getting a Wifi signal booster model HSB2 by Hawking Technology. I bought three of these on Amazon and used two to extend the reach of a customer’s Wifi network in a 20,000 sq foot warehouse. I also recently added one to my home wifi network to get a great signal out on my outdoor patio.

Without the Hawking in that warehouse the Wifi router only got us to the middle of the warehouse and not down the rows of rack shelving and boxes. Adding one Hawking booster got us around most parts of the warehouse and since my router had two antennas I added a second to help get further in the other direction. Installation is easy, just plugin the AC adapter and screw the grey end of the antenna cable to the Hawking input and the other end into the connector where your antenna is located on your router. That’s it and you are done. You can buy longer cables if you want to move the Hawking HSB2 to a higher or longer location away from the router. The only drawback is a faint high pitched whine that comes from the Hawking HSB2. I never noticed it in the warehouse but in my home office I initially noticed it. I was worried my dogs wouldn’t like it and that i’d find it annoying however I no longer notice it and my dogs never seem to pay any attention. They still lay under my desk as always so what initially worried me has turned into a non-issue. So if you don’t mind spending $52.99 to extend your wireless network the Hawking Technology HSB2 signal booster is an easy way to solve a common wifi problem.

This is my review of the Amazon Kindle 2 which has changed the way I view books and the activity of reading. Much like my iPod or my BlackBerry, the Amazon Kindle 2 has changed the way I read and made my reading more productive.

Much like my iPod, the Kindle 2 also makes reading faster and more efficient because all my new books are always with me. If I tire of one or need to reference another I just switch books in seconds, no more carying my books around the house etc.

The Kindle software is also available for the PC / Mac and various cell phone and ipod and ipad platforms. This means if your Kindle is not with you your books still are. Fire up the Kindle software and it senses where you left off on your Kindle 2 and you just keep reading. When you are back with your Kindle 2 it determines where you left off on your PC etc and starts the book just where you left off. So when you get a Kindle 2 you are really gettting on a versitile reading platform sort of like cloud computing for readers.

Ok from a reading and product prospective the Amazon Kindle 2 is excellent in the following ways. The Amazon store available wirelessly for free on the Kindle performs well and makes shopping a genuine activity. An excellent thing about the Kindle is the amount of free and low cost books available. This is why I say shopping becomes an activity because hunting for free or low cost books contains a thrill of its own. Many authors who create a series of books will give away the first in the series which is intended to suck you in. I’ve found many for free or $1.99 and the others in the series are also low cost like $3.99 a book.

The Next Page button on both sides of the Kindle 2 makes reading easy regardless of how you hold the unit. I only wish that they would put additional Next page buttons on the top right and left as well. If you want the previous page however you are limited to the left side for a button but that has not been a problem as I rarely page back.

The Keyboard is easy to use and joystick button for moving around the screen very intuitive.

Ok from a productivity standpoint here’s where the Kindle 2 has changed my reading alltogether. Unlike a paperback I can tuck my Kindle anywhere and bring it anywhere. So any moment i’m held up like a line or waiting room or standing around I can be reading. Much like my cell phone I can also be doing something and glance at the email or in the case of the Kindle the book and still be doing what I was doing such as waiting in line, or picking stuff up at the store. Unlike a book which looks strange for someone to open up and read the Kindle is always open so you just glance down, read a page or so and move on with what you were doing. This small increments of reading really ads up and I can fly through books much faster because I don’t have to remember to carry them with me.
