I’ve been deploying a ton of RSA Soft Tokens and i’m frequently asked for a RSA Soft Token for Android. Up until recently i’ve had to reply that none exists but now at least I have a projected timeframe. I contacted my RSA representative and was informed that there will indeed be an RSA Token For Android but it isn’t scheduled until Q4 of 2010 and maybe Q1 2011. So for now Android users are stuck with Windows or physical RSA tokens. Hopefully the Adroid RSA Token will be relesed sooner than expected.

If you are deploying RSA Soft Tokens to iPhone users you will need to use the RSA Token Converter to convert the RSA Seedfile to a url that the iPhone can use to import the seedfile into the iPhone RSA Token app. RSA provides a Token Converter that you can use to convert the seedfile to a text file containing a weird url that you would email to your iPhone user. Outlook however mangles the url and creates a headache for those deploying RSA iPhone Tokens. I found an offline script that converts the text file to an html file that you can then email to your user on their iPhone. They then open the html file and click the link which imports the token. I found however that my own use required some modification to the original script. I tweaked it a bit and figured i’d post it in case it helps anyone else.
My version of their script makes the following changes.

• It allows you to store the seedfiles in a remote location, it reaches into the central location and doesn’t require you store the seedfile in the same directory as the converter.
• It creates individualized text and html files based on the name of the seedfile processed by the script.
• It deposits the text and html files in the directory that the script runs in and allows you to retain the various files vs overwriting the same file over and over.
• It also checks to see if a previous file already exists and deletes it prior to creating new text and html files. This ensures you are always dealing with fresh files.
• It also tells you step by step what the script did in case you were curious.

If sending the HTML file to someone using Goodlink on the iPhone you may find the link in the HTML file is not clickable.  Simply sent them the .txt file or cut and past the line from the .txt file into the body of the email.  Your user can then cut and paste that into a browser to import the token.  The link to the RSA Token HTML converter script is shown below.

RSA has done a great job of coming out with RSA Soft Tokens for many platforms. You can now run RSA Tokens aon Windows of all flavors, BlackBerry, Nokia and even run the RSA Token on your iphone. Unlike many of the RSA Soft Tokens, for iphone you need to use the RSA Token Converter to change your seedfile into a format that your RSA Token for iphone understands and will import. RSA provides the Token Converter free of charge at their website but you may also want to look into a couple other sites that help with utilizing the converted token data to easily get it imported on your iphone. The most secure i’ve seen is a html based tool that can be used offline. The offline RSA Token Converter lets you run a script that generates an html file you can email to yourself on your RSA Token enabled iphone. Corey Gilmore offers a web based tool that will generate html links you can email to yourself on yoru iphone to import the seedfile code into your iphone RSA token. In either case it all begins with the RSA Token Converter making importing a seedfile into your iphone RSA token easy.

If you have a SecureID RSA Token but would like to use something less easy to lose you might consider a RSA Soft Token that runs on your BlackBerry. The RSA Token For BlackBerry is easy to install and then just runs as another application on your BlackBerry phone. You will need to import a seedfile which is generated by the RSA Admin tool. The seedfile can be emailed to you on your BlackBerry and then imported or you can setup your BlackBerry server to push RSA seedfiles to BlackBerry devices. The first step however is to download and install the RSA token software on your BlackBerry device. RSA has provided the BlackBerry software on their website for a free download.

If you are using RSA authentication you may have been using the RSA hard token which is like a key fob that you carry around. RSA also has a soft token that expires less often and is very convenient in that it can be installed on Windows PC’s or a mobile device like a BlackBerry or iphone. The RSA Token For Windows can be installed on Windows XP or Windows Vista or even the new Windows 7. RSA provides the RSA Token For Windows at their website and the latest 4.1 version of the Windows Token works for 32bit and 64bit versions of Windows. You will need to have your administrator provide a seed file from your RSA server to enable the token and then you will need to set the pin before you can use the RSA Windows token. If you are using RSA Soft Tokens and have upgraded to Windows Vista you are likley looking for a Windows Vista RSA Token. The good news is that RSA has now made available the version 4.1 of the RSA Soft Token which works great with Windows Vista using both 32bit and 64bit versions of the operating system. You can get the Windows Vista RSA Token at the RSA Website. You will still need the seedfile to make the token active. This seedfile comes from your RSA server at your company. You’ll then need to set the pin to make the token work properly.

If you are running Windows and need to use an RSA Soft Token you are now in luck. There is a RSA Soft Token for Windows 7 available from RSA. The RSA token for Windows 7 is version 4.1 which works on both Windows 7 and Windows Vista as well as Windows XP. You can obtain the RSA Token For Windows 7 at this RSA Token link. You will still need to have a seedfile deployed from your RSA Admin server and then set the pin which is why RSA freely gives out the Windows 7 RSA token via their website.
